JCLA presents this policy note examining how resilience, the core objective of humanitarian aid’s response to crisis, is tied to localization and sustainable development from a local perspective. 

At JCLA, we believe that it all begins with justice. Access to justice is a necessary but a heavy load that
needs to be carried by multiple stakeholders in order to achieve justice for all in Jordan.

According to recent statistics, the number of poor and vulnerable individuals detained for issues of debt has been increasing. JCLA presents this report with aims of addressing insolvency debt in Jordan. This papers’ concern is two-fold; the first addresses the causes and consequences of insolvent debt, while the second proposes solutions in a bid to urge the government in developing procedures and tools that will contribute to decreasing the imprisonment of debtors.

With the support of the Foreign Commonwealth Office FCO, JCLA launched the detention program under the “Until Proven Guilty” project that engages duty-lawyers to provide access to justice services from early stages of detention.Through this project JCLA was given the unique opportunity to target root causes and build the foundations of both an efficient and just criminal justice system.
JCLA publishes this report with aims to present results and propose ways forward.
